A Maryland community has rallied together to raise nearly $120,000 for two teens who lost their parents in a car crash.

According to WUSA9, Kyle and Charlene Savage died in a car crash on Saturday around 2:30 a.m. in Bowie, Maryland. Police said the couple’s car lost control, went off the road, hit a pole and then caught fire.

One day after the crash, Kester Irwin Hanley Crosse started a fundraiser on Facebook to help his friends’ children. One of the teens, 14-year-old Knico, will start high school in the fall.

The older boy, 17-year-old Kyle Jr., is a senior at DeMatha Catholic High School. He is heading to Hampton University in Virginia.

“My good friends Kyle and Charlene were tragically killed Friday in a car accident leaving behind two boys,” Crosse wrote. “They are loved and have a strong loving family. The oldest is graduating from high school in two weeks and is attending Hampton in the fall.”

DeMatha Catholic High School has also expressed condolences for the family.

“It is with deep sadness that we share that the parents of senior Kyle Savage ‘22 passed away in a tragic car accident,” the school said in a Facebook post. “The Savage family is in our prayers. We will share funeral information when available. To Kyle, your DeMatha family is here for you.”

Crosse said he’s blown away by the community’s support.

“24 hours ago I woke up asking myself how can we help and in just 24 hours we have raised over $90,000 in financial support for these boys,” he wrote on Facebook. “The devil took their parents away but the God in us gives us resources to support the 2 left of this Fantastic Four.”

Charlene’s sister, Linda Hunter, talked about how much the mother loved her boys.

“Her boys were the world to her,” Hunter told Fox 5 DC.

The grieving sister also praised the teens for the strength they have shown despite the tragedy.

“They know the love and support they have behind them,” she said, according to Fox 5 DC. “Their strength and the courage through this, even more so than some of the adults in the family, has been amazing.”
