A Maryland family is being celebrated on social media after a viral post announced they are the first Black owners of a Fort Washington business park.
According to WUSA 9, the Jordan family obtained the property through The Home Team Realty Group, which they started in 2021. Wyevetra and Jarriel Jordan run the company and employ their son and daughter.
In August 2022, Wyevetra and Jarriel Jordan became the first Black owners of the Fort Washington Business Complex, an accomplishment their adult son, Jarriel Jr., shared on TikTok.
The Jordans’ real estate business is about more than just maintaining a family legacy. According to WUSA 9, the family wants to keep building a strong community legacy by continuing to mentor the youth with their foundation, Jacobs Ladder, and hiring more agents and community partners.
“If you want something truly dynamic and truly that’s going to empower the community and yourself, you have to put a little skin in the game,” Wyevetra Jordan said, according to WUSA 9.
She continued, “When we found this location and we came in and they told us no three times, but we kept coming back.”
“We wanted to be the ones to show folks you can do this you have to be grounded and have a lot of structure to achieve those goals,” Jarriel Jordan added.
Moving forward, the Jordan family plans to continue growing their business and their community outreach through training sessions, career fairs and a national homeownership workshop, which are taking place in the coming months.
