Notre Dame High closed the 2023 season with its first CIF Division I basketball state championship, defeating Livermore’s Granada 67-58 on March 10. 

The school’s star-studded team includes Master P’s son, junior guard Mercy Miller, who played a substantial role in the team’s historic win.

Miller played an outstanding game, scoring 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals.

“We had a shot to do something special, win a state championship,” Miller told MaxPreps. “We made that our goal and we got it done tonight.”

Miller will return for his senior season with plans to win back-to-back state titles for Notre Dame before he heads off to play for the University of Houston in 2024.

Head coach Matt Sargeant told MaxPreps his team had had a season full of battles, which made him confident heading into the championship game.

“These are all guys that are battle-tested,” Sargeant said. “They’ve been playing the toughest schedule, so everybody was ready for what this game was gonna bring to us.”

Master P. celebrated the win by sharing an Instagram post featuring a picture of him and his son.

“State championship. One win, we all win! #MillerGang We work hard, we pray together, support and push each other,” Master P wrote on Instagram. “They can’t stop #GodsPlan @mercymiller @hercymiller #family When you put God first, there’s more blessings to come,” he added.

According to HipHopDX, Miller’s brother, Hercy Miller, is in his sophomore college year as a guard for the Louisville Cardinals.
