Oakland’s third annual Matatu Festival returns this week featuring African cinema, a dinner with Saul Williams, and a screening of the film, Necktie Youth with Director Sibs Shongwe-La Mer.
“The MATATU Festival of Stories projects imagery of traditionally underrepresented peoples from across the world facing challenges familiar to underserved communities across the world. We are impassioned by the belief that everyone and everyplace has a spectacular story, regardless of geographical bounds, sexual preference, race, and socio-economic status.”
This year’s festival titled “MATATU15: The Spectacular Walk of Ordinary People” runs from September 23 through the 26th. Among the wide range of films and events, we curated a few must see events we’re excited to attend:
1. MATATU Opening Dinner w/ Saul Williams, Bryant Terry & Mahader Tesfai
