Maxwell Frost, one of Gen Z’s first members to run for Congress, has won the Democratic nomination for the House of Representatives in Florida’s 10th Congressional District.

Out of the 10 Democratic candidates, Frost received 19,271 votes in the primary election, earning 34.7% of the vote.

“Today’s election is proof that Central Florida’s working families want representation that has the courage to ask for more,” Frost said in a statement. “I share this victory with the nurses, forklift drivers, teachers, caregivers, social workers, farmers, union organizers, cashiers, and other members of this vibrant community who supported this campaign,” he added.

“My name is Maxwell Alejandro Frost and I will be the first Generation-Z member of Congress,” he tweeted. “Don’t count out young people.”

House of Representatives members must be at least 25 years old, but despite his age, Frost’s resume is stamped with experience in the political world. Frost has worked for three presidential campaigns, several Florida state-level campaigns, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and was the director for March for Our Lives.

“My first jobs out of high school as an organizer and then as a field director were getting candidates elected, so I have a good amount of experience in organizing people to vote and inspiring people to get involved civically,” he told Teen Vogue. ” The other organizing I’ve done has been more community-based.

“When I worked at March for Our Lives, we did electoral organizing, but we also did organizing of people around commonly shared values, and what I would call power building,” Frost added.

Florida state Sen. Randolph Bracy and former U.S. Reps. Corrine Brown and Alan Grayson are Frost’s contenders in the primary.

The Democratic elect will face Republican Calvin Wimbish, who won the district’s GOP primary with 12,101 votes.

“Florida just did what almost everybody in the establishment thought impossible,” David Hogg, a March for Our Lives co-founder, wrote on Twitter. “Elect @MaxwellFrostFL, a 25-year-old progressive activist to Congress. Never underestimate the power of pissed-off young people.”

Frost’s campaign run supports Medicare for All, banning assault weapons and ammunition magazines, investing in preparations for future pandemics, and the Green New Deal.
