MC Lyte is officially divorced and gets to take her things with her. The rapper’s divorce from entrepreneur and former Marine John Wyche became final this week after initially filing in 2020. According to the divorce documents, the rapper will walk away with full ownership of her music catalog.

The Blast reports that the rapper, whose legal name is Lana Michele Moorer, was protected under the prenup the couple signed in 2017.

The outlet added the divorce decree revealed the rapper would retain ownership of other creative property, including royalties connected to her creative works and everything she owned before her short marriage to Wyche.

The legal documents from the divorce outline specifically what MC Lyte gets to keep in the divorce, including “jewelry, watches, and personal effects in her possession, custody, or control, and earnings and accumulations before the date of marriage, during the marriage, and post-separation, her Subaru, financial accounts in her name, all furniture, furnishings, and other personal property in her possession, custody, or control. She also gets to keep her term life insurance policy.”

Wyche will also not receive spousal support from Lyte.

The couple met on Match.com and were married in a low-key ceremony in Jamacia in Aug. 2017.

Outlets report the couple pulled the plug on their marriage less than a year later in January 2018.

They both listed “irreconcilable differences” as the main factor for the split.

The Blast claims that divorce documents stated, “Irreconcilable differences have arisen between the parties, which have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife.”

MC Lyte was a guest on The Real in Feb. 2022, where she spoke with the hosts about the grueling process she was going through with the divorce.

“I’m actually still going through it. I think when the press got a hold it, I think people thought we were [still together]. I had just filed. So we’re still going through it right now.”

The 52-year-old rapper then detailed her different phases before realizing the marriage was over.

“I feel like there are phases whenever a relationship is ending, whether you’re married or not. It’s that first phase of, “Oh my God, I’ve got to make this work for us.”

‘Then it’s like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to make this work for everybody else involved,” she said.

She added, “You get to a point where you’re like, this isn’t working. It doesn’t matter. What really matters is that we end up in a happy place.”

“It’s hard in the beginning, but you realize to have happiness doesn’t mean you have to remain together, and it doesn’t mean that you are a failure because the marriage failed. It’s all ego. You just have to be able to let go.”

The rapper also revealed that her now ex-husband did not want to sign the divorce papers when they were first presented.

MC Lyte is not dwelling on the past. She has been spotted out with a new suitor already.
