Megan Thee Stallion sat down with theJasmineBrand to discuss her performances and rap lyrics.
Megan says her lyrics and performances are more than just “embracing sex” but serve as an outlet to encourage a woman’s confidence.
“[It’s about] the confidence you have in yourself as a woman,” the “Savage” rapper told theJasmineBrand. “Being bold is sexy. Sex is not just one-sided. Men should not be the only people who are allowed to speak on sex. Women should be able to control the narrative of how they want to be treated, not only in public but in the bedroom. I’m confident in myself, and I try to set an example for all my ladies to embrace their confidence and sexuality.”
The Houston rapper, who is a recent college graduate and an advocate for Black women, said she still faces criticism about her sexuality. When she released the single “WAP” in collaboration with New York rapper Cardi B, the duo was met with backlash from political conservatives and pundits who criticized the song’s lyrics, NME reports.
In an interview published last year by Far Out, rapper CeeLo Green shared his opinion about today’s music, saying, “A lot of music today is very unfortunate and disappointing on a personal and moral level.”
“There was once a time when we were savvy enough to code certain things. We could express to those it was meant for with the style of language we used. But now music is shameless; it is sheer savagery,” he said, Far Out reports.
“Attention is also a drug, and competition is around. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, they are all more or less doing similar salacious gesturing to kinda get into position. I get it, the independent woman and being in control, the divine femininity and sexual expression. I get it all, but it comes at what cost?” the “Forget You” artist added.
Despite criticism of her sexuality, the Houston Hottie said that her upcoming album will express a different side of her personality.
“I’m finally opening up about things I’ve never publicly spoken about. I’m nervous and excited for my fans to hear this side of my personality,” she said, according to theJasmineBrand.
In addition to producing new music, the rapper landed a first-look production deal with Netflix, where she’ll develop and executive produce future projects, according to Netflix.
“I’ve always had a passion for telling creative and entertaining stories, so I’m thrilled about this partnership with Netflix. Venturing into production is the next step in my journey as an entrepreneur, and I can’t wait to bring all my ideas to life and for my Hotties to watch,” the 27-year-old Grammy-winner said, according to Netflix.
