Rumors erupted after footage of Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake backstage at Tuesday night’s Video Music Awards found its way online. According to Variety, in the clip, it looked like the rapper and the “Keep Going Up” artist were in the middle of a heated argument.

The footage showed the Houston native touching up her makeup in a particularly packed area backstage while members of NSYNC passed by. Timberlake smiled and leaned closer to Megan like he was about to tell her something. Megan said something to him as she pointed her finger at him in a reprimanding fashion and then turned away from the former boybander. She did not look happy when she walked away from the singer. NSYNC vocalist Joey Fatone also appeared to say something.

Though many thought there might be bad blood between the singer and rapper, a source who saw the interaction told Variety there was “zero fight.”

“He said, ‘It’s so nice to meet you,’ and she said, ‘No, no, this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper,’ they revealed, adding the exchange was “very cute.”

A second eyewitness corroborated the first source’s story, telling Variety, “Meg loves Justin. She was saying “No, no, no, we’ve never met before. It was their first time meeting and she was excited.”

Megan set the record straight on Instagram, sharing a video of her and Timberlake laughing together.

“I just talk with my hands🤷🏽‍♀️ lol @justintimberlake love ya 💙,” she wrote in the post’s caption.

It was a big night for both artists. NSYNC stole the show by presenting Taylor Swift with the best pop video award. The band has teased a reunion for weeks, and fans are starting to believe a tour is forthcoming.

Though the band hasn’t confirmed they’ll be hitting the road anytime soon, reports have mentioned NSYNC will sing a song written by Timberlake for Trolls Band Together, the third movie in the DreamWorks franchise. The trailer suggests Timberlake’s character, Branch, will have a boy band reunion storyline. NSYNC’s other members, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, are also expected to be in the movie.

As for Megan, she and fellow female rapper Cardi B performed their new song “Bongos” at the show. The New Yorker made a memorable entrance via disco ball, kicking off the performance with a bang, People reported. Dancers dressed in Carnival-inspired outfits joined the rappers, with the “Hot Girl Summer” MC donning a similar blue bedazzled look.
