Mekhi Phifer co-stars in Divergent, Summit/Lionsgate’s adaptation of Veronica Roth’s YA novel of the same name.
Phifer is part of a cast that includes Zoe Kravitz, Ray Stevenson, Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen, and Amy Newbold in a project that’s set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Neil Burger (Limitless) is directing an adaptation that is being compared to another Lionsgate property, The Hunger Games.
The original draft of the script was written by Evan Daugherty.
Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher and Pouya Shahbazian are producing, with Summit releasing the film theatrically in North America on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Below is a character poster featuring Mekhi Phifer as Max, who’s described as “intense and fearless,” and one of the premiere leaders of the “Dauntless” faction: “Dauntless is about ordinary acts of bravery and having the courage to stand up for another. Respect that, Do us proud.”
I assume all of that means something to those who’ve read the novel.
