Method Man got candid in an interview about his career, mental health, staying in shape and why he doesn’t consider himself a “sex symbol.”

The 52-year-old started his rap career as a member of the Wu-Tang Clan in the early ’90s. He reportedly lived an unhealthy lifestyle as he became more famous in the rap game. It wasn’t until he realized his mental health was declining, which led to anxiety, depression and substance abuse, that he decided to make a change.

“It went from this childhood joy to this euphoric feeling of celebrity to feeling inadequate and not good enough,” he shared in an interview with Men’s Health. “And not even knowing that I’ve been depressed since I was a youngster. A lot of PTSD I had never dealt with before started resurfacing.”

The Staten Island native has taken the proper steps to maintain good health. When he’s not filming episodes for Sstarzs Power Book II: Ghost, Meth is working out heavy in the gym and sharing videos of his physique to his Instagram account. As fans continue swooning over his looks, the “Ice Cream” artist remains humble and doesn’t view himself as a “sex symbol.”

“I’m not a sex symbol,” he told the magazine for its September issue celebrating 50 years of hip-hop. “That’s the whole f**king point, man. Put the words together. Sex and symbol. What’s the symbol? I’m not doing anything. So what’s the symbol?” Meth asked.

He continued: “I’m not going to lie, I love every freaking minute of it, but I don’t want to be that guy that, when the clock starts winding down, he’s still trying to be that sexy.”

Though Meth appreciates the love, he remains happily married to his wife Tamika of 20-plus years, per Atlanta Black Star

Meth also talked about moving on from hip-hop as he continue to establish his acting career.

“This is my life now,” he said. “I’m not selling records as Method Man anymore.”
