The City of Miami is catching some heat after unveiling a police cruiser decked in red, yellow, green, blue and pink, complete with Black fists and an outline of Africa.

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez joined Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales to reveal the Black History Month tribute to the public on Thursday, WSVN reports.

“This is a beautiful collaboration to commemorate Black history and Black History Month and the history of African Americans and our police department and our city,” Suarez told reporters. “This is Black history.”

However, the public’s response doesn’t appear to be what the city leaders expected. Many people expressed their disapproval on social media, wondering how the city failed to see the irony of decorating a police car to honor Black History Month.

According to The Miami Herald, the unveiling took place at the Black Police Precinct & Courthouse Museum, built in a historically Black neighborhood.

As Miami celebrates Black History Month with its unusual tribute, the issue of police brutality continues to be a major problem  around the country. The latest tragedy involving Tyre Nichols is one of many cases of police brutality that is causing outrage and devastation across the nation.

As Blavity previously reported, five officers in Memphis brutally beat and killed Nichols.
