My last post on this, back in May, included an announcement that the film would be released in theaters on June 10th; I don’t believe that ever happened, unless it was some really small-scale release that I knew absolutely nothing about.
A press release I received recently, says that it’ll not be officially released on DVD, UNRATED, on September 13th, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
A recap… it’s Michael Jai White’s directorial debut, a sequel to 2008’s Never Back Down, titled Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown .
The first film co-starred Djimon Hounsou. It was poorly reviewed by critics, and managed a $41 million worldwide box office gross.
For the sequel, director White promised, a “darker installment… with a more of a ‘The Dark Knight’ feel…,” and less of a, “Melrose Place vibe.” I guess he felt that the first one had more of a Melrose Place vibe? Hah!
Its synopsis: Four fighters from different backgrounds come together to train under an ex MMA rising star, and then ultimately have to fight each other and the traitor in heir midst.
White stars in the film too, by the way, as the above ex MMA rising star.
DVD bonus features will include: Deleted Scenes, Commentary with Director Michael Jai White.
It will retail at $26.99. You should be able to preorder starting August 11th.
