Sasha and Malia Obama have grown up right in front of our eyes. Michelle Obama recently opened up about the girls’ love lives, sharing that they’re starting to bring grown men home, Black America Web reports.

While appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the former first lady dished on having a full house during the pandemic. Though she said it was a “special treat” to have Sasha and Malia home for a brief period of time, she was ready to see them go and live their own lives, adding that they are 23 and 20 years old now.

“Women,” Michelle said as the audience reacted. “Scary, I know.”

Host Ellen DeGeneres said that the first time the Obamas visited the show, Sasha and Malia were just 8 and 10 years old respectively. They joined their parents for one reason — to see the Jonas Brothers.

“They loved the Jonas Brothers,” Michelle said. “Now they are bringing grown men home.”

“Before it was just, like, pop bands,” the former first lady continued. “Now they have boyfriends and real lives.”

The 58-year-old went on to talk about raising the girls as normally as possible, despite them growing up in the White House. She said what grounded her parenting was advice from her mother, who lived at the presidential house throughout former President Barack Obama’s administration.

“I listened to what my mother said when she was raising us,” she explained. “She said, ‘I’m not raising babies, I’m raising real people to be out in the world.’ And I kept that in mind with the girls.”

Michelle said she knew they’d need the tools to survive real life outside of the White House.

“I mean, they wouldn’t always be in that bubble of the White House, so they had to learn to make their beds. They had to learn how to drive. They had to learn how to be compassionate, independent, responsible people so that they entered the world as responsible, compassionate, capable people. And I think they are amazing young women because of that,” she said.

Sasha, who started her college career at the University of Michigan, is now a student at the University of Southern California, Page Six reports. Malia is also a California girl now, joining the writing team for Donald Glover’s upcoming Amazon series potentially titled Hive, as Blavity previously reported.
