Update: In a statement sent to Blavity, a spokesperson for Michigan State University said they won’t be punishing a student who posted racist rants on social media.
“The MSU Office of Institutional Equity has been looking into the situation, however a formal investigation will not be taking place because the student’s behavior was not directed at or targeting an individual,” the statement reads “The university is working with the student to make sure he/she understands the severity and impact of the comments that were made. If other MSU students have comments or concerns on this matter, they should direct them to the Office of [Institutional] Equity.”
Original story: Students at Michigan State University are urging their school to take disciplinary action against a white student for spewing racist remarks on her social media account. Many have called out sophomore Jillian Kirk for repeatedly expelling racial slurs on Twitter and Snapchat, The Tab at Michigan State reported.
A student using Twitter handle @Juylianafowlkes tweeted images of Kirk – one with the N-word in a Snapchat caption and another with the same racial expletive written on a note affixed to her forehead.
"Let’s play a game… it’s called 'How many retweets does this girl need before MSU kicks her out,'" the student wrote.

According to screenshots submitted to The Tab, Kirk has been spewing racist remarks for some time. She wrote, "GOD BLESS AMERICA AND F*CK THE BLACKS," in 2013 according to the screen grab.
Kirk reportedly apologized in an e-mail statement to The Tab.
"I apologize for the inappropriate social media posts I made," she wrote in part. "Nothing was meant to cause pain to anyone, but I realize what was in those posts is hurtful and disrespectful…"
But many on Twitter have expressed their concern that no strong disciplinary actions will be taken against Kirk.
Jillian Kirk is racist. You have a racist student in 2018. And she’s a bully. What else does MSU condone? https://t.co/WecPFb75tQ

The university released a statement on Wednesday in response to Kirk's social media posts, saying it's "addressing this situation through multiple channels":
"One of the university’s core values is inclusion, to have a campus environment that fosters free speech and the sharing of ideas and beliefs. However, we do not condone racial harassment or bullying. The university is aware of the recent social media posts connected to an MSU student. As a public institution, we do not get to control what every member of our community says. What was said is clearly not aligned with our Spartan values. We are addressing this situation through multiple channels, and we are using it as an opportunity to keep a conversation about race and inclusion ongoing."

Blavity reached out to Michigan State University to ask about the disciplinary actions, if any, against Kirk. The university did not immediately return Blavity's request for comment.
