Microsoft is discontinuing its long-standing Outlook Lite app soon, forcing Android users to see alternative email options.
The tech company initially launched Outlook Lite four years ago, and now it will completely phase out the app and remove it from the Google Play Store on May 26, according to 9To5 Google and Neowin.
How will ending Outlook Lite affect Android users?
Android users will still be able to use the full-fledged email app, as it was previously available before the company unveiled the faster version.
While Outlook Life provided more benefits than the traditional version, it also had some limitations. The latest version offered improved speed without requiring users to download the entire Android app, according to 9To5Google.
Android users will need to revert to the traditional version of Outlook before the latest version is discontinued.
After the end of May, mailbox access will be restricted, the app will no longer function, and Outlook Lite users will be locked out.
Outlook Mobile will be available for Android and iOS users
“The retirement shouldn’t affect too many users because Microsoft has purposefully prevented users from downloading this app since October 6, 2025. If you do still have it, you should definitely migrate to Outlook Mobile so that you aren’t cut off in late May,” Neowin stated.
Outlook mobile will be available for both Android and iOS users. “To continue enjoying a secure and feature-rich email experience, we recommend switching to Outlook Mobile,” Microsoft said on its website.
“Aside from going into the Play Store and finding Outlook Mobile manually,” Neowin explained, “there is also an Upgrade option inside the Outlook Lite app which will send you off to the Play Store to get the latest update. Directing users here could be more straightforward for admins.”
Android users can visit the Microsoft website to download Outlook Mobile before Outlook Lite is no longer available.
