File this one under unconfirmed rumor for now…

We’re hearing through the grapevine that Taraji P. Henson has joined the cast of Universal’s James Brown biopic, Get On Up, to play Tammi Terrell.

Assuming this news holds, Henson, who you can currently catch on CBS’ Person Of Interest, would be joining Get On Up stars, Chadwick Boseman (as James Brown), Jill ScottDan AykroydViola DavisOctavia Spencer, and Lennie James in the Tate Taylor-directed film.

This may also simply be wishful thinking, given that there is a slight resemblance between Taraji and Terrell (photo above). IMDBPro does currently list Henson as Terrell on the both the project’s page as well as on Henson’s on page, although, again, as I said at the start, this is unconfirmed. If that changes, I’ll update this post.

Last week, Universal moved up the release date of Get On Up from October 172014 to August 12014, taking over the slot previously reserved for its 50 Shades Of Grey film adaptation, which has now been pushed to February 13, 2015.
Get On Up will compete with Disney’s wide release of its adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy on that August 1, 2014 weekend.

Shooting on the project has begun, in Mississippi, with Brian Grazer producing alongside Mick Jagger, for Universal Pictures.

Promising a warts and all telling of Brown’s life story on film, the screenplay was penned by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth (they wrote the script for Fair Game, the Naomi Watts and Sean Penn film).
