On of 4 TV sales producer Will Packer made since launching his own production company and inking a first-look deal with NBC/Universal, although this one is going to ABC, the comedy pilot, titled "Uncle Buck," has tapped Mike Epps for the title role, and Nia Long.

A small-screen adaptation of the 1989  John Hughes/John Candy movie of the same name, "Uncle Buck" the TV series will be penned by "MADtv" vets Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, and is described as a family comedy about a childish man who learns how to be an adult by taking care of his brother’s kids in a very childish way. 

Will Packer will exec-produce alongside Cragg and Bradley.

With Epps in the title role, Nia Long will play his strong-willed and smart wife.

If ABC likes the pilot, and it’s ordered to series, I’d expect a 2015/2016 premiere – maybe as a companion piece to the network’s other family comedy with a black family at the center, "Black-ish."

It’s a good time to be Mike Epps; the actor/comedian beat out the competition to land the starring role in Lee Daniels’ Richard Pryor biopic. He also appears in the upcoming Bessie Smith biopic for HBO, that stars Queen Latifah.

As for Nia Long, we last saw her in the 2014 WEtv legal drama series "The Divide," which wasn’t renewed for a second season; she also co-starred in Tyler Perry’s "Single Moms Club."
