As America reels over recent news about family separation at the U.S.- Mexico border, former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee tweets out a racist dog whistle aimed at U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
Huckabee has transitioned from politics to comedy over the last few years. His jokes, often unfunny and uninsightful, have riled up liberals who have in turn called him out for his tactlessness and bigoted tweets.
Huckabee tweeted out a photo Saturday claiming Pelosi's committee to regain the House for Democrats would include Hispanic gang members.
"Nancy Pelosi introduces her campaign committee for the take back of the House," he wrote in the tweet.
Conservatives have expressed concerns about violence against white people from undocumented immigrants. And since President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, the gang MS-13 has been used as a scapegoat for that fear. Trump has gone on record calling members "animals" for their alleged crimes.
USA Today reports the gang has affiliations in the United States, Mexico, Central America and Canada. However, the majority of its members hail from Central America, particularly El Salvador.
Huckabee's tweet was met with criticism from liberals.
Producer Lena Waithe called his tweet just plain racist.
Racist jokes aren’t funny. They’re just racist. https://t.co/9bzvfGCjEn

Journalist Soledad O'Brien reminded the world that Huckabee is a bigot.
Governor Huckabee, still a bigot. https://t.co/n9a4qDVxzl

Activist Angela Rye called out the blatant racism as well.
You’re racist AF. You traffic in fear by otherizing folks. Your biggest concern about border crossings is being outnumbered. It’s about people who are more likely to vote for progressives than to endorse your bigotry. Shame. On. YOU! https://t.co/W741oaAsew

Others were quick to point out the hypocrisy of the Right.

But even with the backlash, expect for unfunny hits from the Huck.
