This piece is part of a 28-day series celebrating modern black love among millennials. It was created by Chuck Marcus and Michelle Nance, exclusively distributed by Blavity.

There is no playbook for love. Only feeling, experience, trying, failing, fighting, making up, and growing — sometimes apart, sometimes together. There are no directions for love, but sometimes all it takes to relate and find ways to push forward is representation that allows you to find a mirror to reflect on.

Millennial Love Stories launched in 2018 as an interview and photography series designed to take a peek inside the dynamics of romantic relationships between black millennials. Our mission: to dissect and discover what love and commitment look like for this generation.

This year, the series returns with a slate of 28 new couples who’ve shared their stories as a glimpse into the nuances of commitment. We’ve asked the questions that help expose how the variables of each relationship play their part. How are things changed by time, distance, children, vows, career life? The bottom line; how do these couples continue to say “I choose you” through it all?

Throughout the month of February, you’ll meet 28 couples who paint a candid portrait of what it takes to continue to say “I choose you” day after day in a generation where the rules of love are all brand new.

Stay tuned!
