In a statement received by Blavity, Mona Scott-Young, Elliott’s manager of almost 30 years and CEO of Monami Entertainment, expressed how monumental and well-deserved this achievement is.

“Missy receiving this honor — of not only being the first female Hip Hop Artist to EVER be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame AND being one of only three women to be inducted in their first year of eligibility — is a penultimate moment in a stellar career defined by record breaking, ceiling shattering firsts! From mind-blowing musical contributions to iconic mind-bending visuals, Missy continues to shift pop culture and elevate what is possible. I could not be prouder or more honored to be a part of her incredible journey,” she said.

This isn’t the first time Elliott has made history in her career. In 2019, she became the first female rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, won the Video Music Awards’ prestigious Vanguard Award, and won the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Music Pioneer Award at the United Nations. Plus, selling over 40 million records globally, Elliott is still the best-selling female rapper in Nielsen Music history.

Elliott will also headline at Las Vegas’ Lovers and Friends Festival this weekend. The performance will be her first billed in four years.

Pop singer Kate Bush, country legend Willie Nelson, the late George Michael and country-pop singer Sheryl Crow were included in this year’s Hall of Fame inductees class.

 

The 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Nov. 3.
