From Deadline:
… NBC has closed a deal for Mixed Blessings, a single-camera comedy project executive produced by singer-songwriter John Legend and former NBC executive Teri Weinberg… Mixed Blessings centers on a prominent, black, street-bred hip-hop artist enjoying his single life who discovers that he has a teenage son and decides to connect with him and his white suburban family. The show explores the culture clash and the complicated journey of a father and son beginning their relationship as the dad soon discovers that fame, talent, and wealth get you nowhere when it comes to parenting.
So this makes it the 3rd new show deal NBC has made in recent weeks that features blacks in lead roles, including the already announced TV drama series based on Walter Mosley’s fictional African American private investigator Ezekiel “Easy” Rawlins, and a new drama series titled Bad Girls – a women’s prison drama based on the UK series of the same name.
But don’t get too excited just yet… assuming you were about to. Let’s see how all this shakes out in the end.
By the way, I couldn’t help but think of the 1970s/1980s British comedy sitcom also titled Mixed Blessings, which centered on an interracial married couple, and their disapproving families. Obviously not quite the same thing…
