Fresh off the heels of a wildly successful "Verzuz" battle between Babyface and Teddy Riley, dozens of musicians are being asked about potential matchups.

After the most recent battle nearly crashed Instagram, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland signed up Erykah Badu and Jill Scott for the next event.

Now fans are clamoring for the next potential battle: Monica versus Brandy. Fans shouldn't get their hopes up too high, as both stars sounded hesitant about getting involved in separate interviews last week, but each left the door open to the future.

Monica spoke to V-103, an Atlanta radio station, and said she wouldn't be interested in a "Verzuz" event with Brandy because she's been pitted against her for decades. However, the singer said she would be open to the idea if it was more geared toward celebrating the music of both artists.

“I understand the idea of [Verzuz] and I think it’s really, really entertaining, and it is an incredible idea. What I do like is it’s kind of turning into a celebration. I can handle a celebration. … One thing that has happened to me my whole career is being put against someone else that I’m not even remotely similar to. I think the reality is, us being polar opposites makes it dope,” she said.

“The only battle or "Verzuz" they want to see with me is me against Brandy, and the reality is, people have put us against each other for twenty-something years,” she said.

Monica added that if the Instagram Live session was more about honoring their music, it would make more sense to her.

"The reality is, I think ‘Boy Is Mine’ is such a phenomenal record because we’re polar opposites. And I think that’s dope. And she’s one of the greatest artists of our time as well, so could we do a celebration or something of that sort? That would be the only thing that makes sense to me. Because I’ve been trying to tell people for about 25 years, you can like both! You’re going to turn this into 1998 all over again and I have no interest in that," she said.

She also noted that “Teddy and Babyface were really celebrating each other. They knew each other’s records, they gave each other love the whole time, and I think that’s what made it so dope.”

In an interview with Essence on Facebook Live, Brandy said she didn't really want to battle Monica but that she would be open to it.

"I really can’t see myself doing that. I’m open to it but I haven't really thought about it," she said. "That would be kind of weird. Who would play ‘The Boy Is Mine’? I don’t know. I’m open for sure. I’m not close-minded."

Brandy’s brother Ray J appeared on The Wendy Williams Show and was honest in saying he couldn't battle anyone because of his lack of hits. But he floated the potential fireworks of a Brandy and Monica battle.

“Brandy, on the other hand, she could battle. A good Brandy-Monica battle? Ooooh,” he said.

In a comment on a Shade Room Instagram post, Charlamagne tha God spoke about the potential battle, writing: "Monica for the win. We have actually done this battle with the aux cord on vacation…..sleep on Mo catalog if you want to."
