Monica is known for her many accomplishments during her 29-year singing career, but her knack for classy clapbacks is another aspect of her brand.

As Blavity previously reported, Monica graced the stage at the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards alongside Jimmie Allen and Little Big Town to perform the inspiring song “Pray.” Captain America actor Anthony Mackie co-hosted the show.

However, right-wing reporter Patrick Howley found himself baffled and annoyed at the presence of Black people at the award show.

“The melanated people invented country music!” he said, mimicking the perspective of Black people. “We was making country music in Wakanda before Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard done stole the Black man’s country music!”

Monica later learned of his comments and took to Instagram to offer her perspective.

“I’ve never been more motivated.. Patrick Howley, although your feelings are likely shared by some, it’s NOT by the masses! I have an all star LEGENDARY team of true country artist that are currently working with me that would beg to differ !” the songstress wrote.

Gospel artists including Erica Campbell and Tasha Cobbs Leonard posted their support of Monica.

“We Are Here sir deal with it!” Campbell wrote.

Country artist Mickey Guyton responded, writing, “Smfh.”

CMT also commented, praising Monica’s presence at the 2022 award show and distancing themselves from Howley’s remarks.

@monicadenise WE love you. Your performance at the show with @jimmieallen and @littlebigtown was magical. AND we can’t wait for the new music you’ve got coming soon,” they wrote.
