Rebel Wilson, you have some explaining to do.
While on her press tour to promote her new film Isn't it Romantic, the actress sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and made a bold claim that she was the "first plus-size girl to be the star of a romantic comedy." She later doubled-down on the assertion in an Instagram post.
Naturally, the internet was quick to point out that Wilson's remarks were, in fact, incorrect, and Queen Latifah and Mo'Nique have already captured that title.
I love @RebelWilson as much as the next girl, but she isn’t the first plus sized woman to play the lead in a romantic comedy. Queen Latifah and Mo’Nique have both played romcom leads ???? https://t.co/l2uEpwvcsF

Wilson responded to the tweet, but only to defend her already incorrectly proven statement.
Hey girl! Yeah I of course know of these movies but it was questionable as to whether: 1. Technically those actresses were plus size when filming those movies or 2. Technically those films are catorgorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead. So there’s a slight grey area

Technically, you're still wrong, Rebel.
Mo'Nique, who starred in the 2006 romantic comedy Phat Girlz, stepped in and politely schooled the Bridesmaids star, encouraging her to study her history before making any more brash claims:
Hey my sweet sister. Let’s please not allow this business to erase our talent with giving grey areas and technicalities. Take a moment and know the history. DON’T BE A PART OF ERASING IT. I wish you the best.

Rather than acknowledging that she was wrong, Wilson responded to Mo, saying she wasn't trying to "erase anyone's achievements."
Hi Monique, it was never my intention to erase anyone else’s achievements and I adore you and Queen Latifah so so much x I support all plus size ladies and everything positive we are doing together ❤️

Twitter users were also quick to point out that even though Wilson misspoke, instead of holding a dialogue with others questioning her remarks, she instead blocked those who chose to engage with the Pitch Perfect star.
That’s nice but Rebel you have blocked NUMEROUS black and non- black POC women who have tried to have he conversation and most commented in the same tone as the one white woman you decided to respond to. That’s a problem.

Even though Wilson refuses to recognize the achievements of plus-size actresses before her time, we can always count on the internet to provide concise and factual receipts to hold anyone accountable, no matter how likable they are.
