The actress and comedian launched a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Paramount and CBS in Los Angeles Superior Court Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. The suit alleges that the two companies suppressed the show’s profitability to keep millions of dollars that would otherwise be due to Hicks Media, the production company owned by Mo’Nique and her husband/business partner Sidney Hicks.

According to the suit, “While the series has proven to be a major financial success for its producers and distributors, the series’ talent have not been permitted to share in the fruits of that success.”

Mo’Nique commented on the suit in a statement, saying, “I just want the contractual compensation that I’ve earned.”

The suit also alleges that the creators and writers on the series have also been underpaid. The suit claims that Mo’Nique learned about the alleged underpayment after the writers and creators filed a lawsuit themselves.

 

As fans of Mo’Nique know, this is not the first time the actress and comedian has gone up against the titans of the industry. Aside from her infamous feuds with Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, she also sued Netflix for discrimination bias, leading to a settlement. She has since made up with Netflix by creating her comedy special, My Name is Mo’Nique, which is steaming now.

She is also set to start in Daniels’ upcoming horror film at the streamer.
