With the first half of the new TV season well underway, as the annual fall/winter holiday festivities kick off in a couple of weeks with Thanksgiving, I thought I’d run a survey to get a feel for how you all are feeling about the new TV shows we’ve been covering since the new TV season began – shows like ABC’s FBI drama-thriller "Quantico" which Aunjanue Ellis co-stars in; or Mehcad Brooks and David Harewood in the new ‘Supergirl’ series on CBS (although it’s only a couple of episodes in, so maybe it’s too soon to say); Or Jill Marie Jones in Starz original series based on the "Evil Dead" film franchise, "Ash vs Evil" (also still early in its run); Wesley Snipes in NBC’s "The Player" (although this one may not make it to another season, after NBC cut the number of episodes ordered by 3); Tone Bell and Bresha Webb in Will Packer’s NBC comedy "Truth Be Told" (which also saw an episode order cut); Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Ukweli Roach in "Blindspot" on NBC; Meagan Good starring in Fox’s serial adaptation of "Minority Report" (which has been an under-performer for the network); Morris Chestnut in the crime procedural "Rosewood"; Keke Palmer, Lucien Laviscount, and Niecy Nash in "Scream Queens" (also an under-performer for Fox); "The Bastard Executioner" on FX, which features Danny Sapani among its cast members; and others not mentioned here.

Essentially, as you can see based on the titles I did list, new TV series that count black actors as cast members in supporting/starring/lead roles.

There was a lot of initial excitement for this fall season, as networks began announcing their pilot orders earlier in the year, and there were quite a few that featured black actors in significant roles (of course, the vast majority of them didn’t make the cut; others will debut during the second half of the current season, after the holidays).

Also, you can include returning series if you must, like "Empire," "Sleepy Hollow," which, unfortunately, hasn’t been fairing well this season, as it performed during its freshman year, and, according to some, could very well be canceled after this season ends. There’s also Shonda Rhimes’ "Scandal," "The Walking Dead" (which has a few notable black characters this season; of course, whether they’ll all survive the season remains to be seen). There’s also "Black-ish," "How to Get Away With Murder," "Gotham," the latest installment of the "American Horror Story" anthology, "Flash," and others.
