A mother-daughter duo enjoyed the ultimate surprise before heading out to the world premiere of The Little Mermaid on Monday.
The live-action remake of The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey in the titular role is hitting theaters on May 26. Ahead of its highly anticipated release, the cast went all out at the Los Angeles premiere on May 8. Naturally, hundreds of celebrities and their families, along with influencers and their children, came from all over for a magical night out. TikTok creator Jayla Brenae and her daughter, Kayla, were among those to attend the star-studded event. But before they even hit the blue carpet (to match the color of the sea, of course), they bumped into none other than Jodi Benson, the original Ariel in the 1989 cartoon version.
Brenae posted a video capturing the special moment. “When you walk out of your hotel room, and these ladies want a picture with your daughter… and then you realize, it’s Jodi Benson,” she captioned her TikTik post. “The original Little Mermaid that you have been obsessed with since you were little!” The adorable interaction between Benson and Brenae and her daughter has since racked up over 16 million views, with hundreds of users gushing over the “too cute” moment.
“So precious, and your little one has no idea who that lady is and why mom is crying,” one person commented.
“It’s moments like these that we can hold on to,” another added.
“This is just too cute! I love that you two experienced this,” one user wrote.
After running into Benson, Brenae and her daughter had a blast on the blue carpet, even spotting Bailey, who is making history as the first Black Ariel. “While Ariel’s legs were made for dancing, ours are made to walk the blue carpet thanks to @liquidiv!” Brenae captioned another video from the premiere. “What an unforgettable experience to see Disney’s #TheLittleMermaid at their World Premiere!”
