In September, when P&G announced an open casting call for #TheNextMrClean, the company made it crystal clear that they were looking for a fresh face to stand in for the iconic animated brand ambassador. “Mr. Clean has been flexing his muscles against millions of household messes since 1958, tackling dirt, grease and grime,” said Kevin Wenzel, P&G’s associate brand director for North America Surface Care. “As you can imagine, Mr. Clean is in need of some serious R&R.”
After holding live auditions in New York and Los Angeles, and reviewing hundreds of 60-second video entries, the company chose Mike Jackson for the job. Jackson received $20,000, a year’s supply of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City, where he was featured in a 2017 limited edition Mr. Clean calendar.
While he is not the star of the $5 million Super Bowl ad, the Atlanta native will serve as brand ambassador, joining Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware in support of Mr. Clean, as the animated P&G character undergoes a sexy makeover for his Super Bowl ad debut on Feb. 5.
