Rapper Cordae, who recently welcomed a baby daughter with his partner Naomi Osaka, made a special announcement while performing at a concert in Canada over the weekend. In front of his fans at Canada’s Calgary Stampede, Cordae revealed the name of the couple’s child.

“My daughter Shai was just born a couple days ago, so I dedicate this performance to my baby girl Shai,” the proud father told the crowd.

According to People, a source said Osaka gave birth in Los Angeles. The four-time Grand Slam singles champion held a baby shower in June and revealed she was expecting a baby girl. Osaka shared images of the joyous celebration on Instagram.

In February, the 25-year-old tennis star told People she already knew the baby’s gender, but Cordae did not.

“I’ve been preparing, but he doesn’t know the gender yet, only I know,” Osaka told the outlet. “So it’s not like I can build out the room or anything.”

Osaka has also been opening up about other aspects of her life, including her mental health. Speaking to People earlier this year, Osaka said she is grateful for her decision to withdraw from the French Open in 2021 as she prioritized her mental health.

“It’s always really heartwarming when people tell me that I have helped them with their own struggles. I remember being in a grocery store one time and someone stopped me to tell me how much I meant to them as they were dealing with their own mental health struggles,” she said. “At the time, I was doing it for myself but I realized that my decision to help myself was also helping many others.”

The tennis star hopes to help provide a better world for her child.

“I would say for me, I just want to be the best version of myself. Obviously, I’ve never been a mother before so I’m taking it day-by-day and just trying to be someone that my son or daughter will be proud of,” she told People earlier this year.

As for the baby’s name, Osaka said they were going for something different.

“We have been discussing names. I would say that we are going for something more unique than traditional,” she said.
