The U.S. Open match between Naomi Osaka and Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff continues to take center stage after the two shared a heartfelt moment on the court over the weekend.

During Saturday’s match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, Osaka defeated Gauff, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory, according to ESPN

Osaka, the No. 1 player in the world and defending champion, displayed outstanding sportsmanship to the 15-year-old newcomer who teared up following her loss. Osaka, 21, insisted Gauff join her in the on-court interview which is typically reserved for victors.

"I saw that she was kind of tearing up a little," Osaka said according to The Guardian. "Then it reminded me how young she was. I was just thinking, like, it would be nice for her to address the people that came and watched her play.”

The champ also made it a point to search the crowd for Gauff's parents to share encouraging words with them as well.

“You guys raised an amazing player…I remember I used to see you guys training in the same place as us…and for me, the fact that both of us made it and we’re both still working as hard as we can, I think it’s incredible,” Osaka said tearfully.

"I think she really showed sportsmanship tonight…after the match, I think she just proved that she's a true athlete,” Gauff said of her fellow player. “For me, the definition of an athlete is someone who on the court treats you like your worst enemy but off the court can be your best friend. I think that's what she did tonight.”

On Sunday, Osaka continued to show love to Gauff following the loss by calling her a “warrior" on social media. Gauff responded to Osaka via Twitter by describing her as “a class act.”

The moment between the young athletes echoes last year’s U.S. Open match when Serena Williams was seen comforting Osaka during the final. Osaka defeated her hero during the controversial match, which brought both players to tears.

Gauff rose to fame after defeating her idol, Venus Williams, at Wimbledon during her history-making match in July. The Atlanta native, whose family later moved to Florida, was issued a wild card spot to play at the U.S. Open.

During an interview with Teen Vogue for Gauff's first-ever cover, her father, Corey, whom she's named after, opened up about her journey.

"When it comes to something like tennis, [Coco] works hard. This is not an accident. She might be overnight popular, but she’s not an overnight success," he said.

Several celebrities have offered Osaka and Gauff praise following their match, including Gabrielle Union, Kobe Bryant, Ellen DeGeneres, Larenz Tate and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, saluted the women online by writing that they've "set an example for the world."
