Naomie Harris is in final negotiations to star opposite Ewan McGregor in the film adaptation of John le Carre’s novel Our Kind of Traitor

In the upcoming crime thriller, directed by Susanna White (Parade’s End TV series), Harris will play Gail Perkins, the barrister wife of an Oxford English Literature don named Perry Makespeace. Through a tennis match, husband and wife become closely acquainted with a Russian mafia don named Dima, a big-time money launderer who is well versed in terrorist activities.

In the story, Dima wants the British couple to aid him and his extended family to defect to the UK, after Dima’s close friend is murdered by a leader of his very own criminal brotherhood. Conflict arises when the British Intelligence and Dima’s enemies become involved in the ploy, and Perry and Gail don’t know who to trust.

Interesting to note that in the novel, Gail Perkins is Mr. Makespeace girlfriend, and in the film, Harris will play his wife.

Our Kind of Traitor has begun principal photography in a forest in Finland, which is standing in for Moscow. Harris told the UK’s Daily Mail at a pre-Oscar dinner that she was getting ready to head over to England and intended “to detox and get fit.”

Harris was last seen in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom opposite Idris Elba; next up, she will resume her role as Miss Moneypenny in the Bond Franchise’s next installment.

Has anyone read the novel?
