After garnering widespread outrage for his use of excessive force during a traffic stop, a Nashville police officer has resigned.

According to the Tennessean, on July 3 officer Barrett Teague stopped a female motorist after she was reportedly driving with expired tags. The motorist, Adreneyonia Ensley, posted about the encounter on her Facebook page, stating that she complied with Teague’s request to show her documents. However, in the video that Ensley posted, Teague is seen assaulting her, slamming Ensley against a car.

After Ensley’s video went viral the following day, the Nashville officer was decommissioned.

Teague submitted his resignation on Tuesday, but it will not go into effect until his 30-day suspension without pay concludes.

“While we are satisfied with this administrative resolution, we believe that it is most important that the MNPD make an immediate request to the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission to full decertify Officer Teague,” the Community Oversight Board said in a statement to WSMV. “Decertification will assure that Officer Teague can no longer work as a police officer in the state of Tennessee.”

While Teague’s administrative investigation has ended due to his resignation, Nashville detectives are now focusing on pursuing a criminal investigation into Teague’s behavior.
