Former ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta‘ star Nene Leakes‘ is clearing the air after it was reported her youngest son was in the hospital.

On Oct. 10, TMZ broke the news that the reality star’s 23-year-old son, Brentt Leakes, had been hospitalized earlier this month after suffering from both a heart attack and a stroke. According o the publication, Brentt was hospitalized for a few days, then released to continue rehabbing at home with family. He is expected to be back to 100% soon.

Later that day, Leakes took to social media to add more to the story, feeling it was necessary to share details before the wrong information was put out.

She first started by thanking everyone who reached out with their concerns, then shared why she decided to speak publicly.

“We wanted to be able to talk about it ourselves when Brentt was in a better place [but] here I am [because] I would rather the correct thing be out there than something that’s not correct,” Nene said in a since-deleted Instagram video.

Leakes then gave a backstory on Brentt’s health scare.

“Two weeks ago today, Brentt had congestive heart failure and a stroke,” she shared. “He’s only 23, so he’s really young for something like that to happen to him.”

She went on to explain that usually when someone as young as Brentt suffers from such a condition, doctors speculate that drugs, infections, or HIV could be a factor. The mother of two assured the public that Brentt does not drink or do drugs, but he was tested for all of those things anyway and nothing was found.

She also shared that there’s a possibility that this could be a result of COVID and that Brentt was otherwise asymptomatic. Unfortunately, finding the root cause of his stroke has led doctors to a dead end.

“We are still trying to figure [it] out. If we knew the cause they would treat the cause. It was very scary. I don’t even want to go into details of what happened how I found out,” Leakes said. “Obviously, a stroke is a very serious thing. He’s struggling with speaking, and…I don’t know. keep us in your prayers.”

Before ending the video, she made it clear that Brentt is in a positive place while he is recovering, and she appreciates all prayers during this time.

“He’s in good spirits. We are just shocked…shocked. All of this is still so new to me.”
