If you watched the BET Awards last night, you likely saw all the “fall 2013 black film” trailers that aired during the broadcast – including this one: a new TV spot for Malcolm D. Lee’s sequel to The Best Man, titled The Best Man Holiday, which sees the return of the stars from the first film, including Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau,Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan,Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall, who are all reprising their roles in a story that is set 15 years after the original.
The story:
When the college friends finally reunite over the Christmas holidays, 15 years after the first film, they will discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited.
You’ll recall Morris Chestnut sharing, in an interview last week, that his role in the upcoming sequel pushed him “like no other because the character was so emotionally conflicted. His emotions were high at some points but, for most points, they were very low. So I had to be in the headspace that I don’t like to go into often. That was extremely, extremely challenging. Probably, the most challenging to this day.“
He went on to add that audiences are in for an emotional roller-coaster ride, and that this Best Man sequel is better than the first film. We’ll find out in about 4 months.
Universal Pictures has set the release date for the sequel for November 15, 2013.
