Cynthia Nixon popped up in a very unexpected place: a Rakim and Eric B concert, according to a video snagged by The Fader.
The legendary rappers brought Nixon, who is running for governor of New York, onstage to address the crowd and hopefully get a few votes for November. The former "Sex and the City" star announced her candidacy in March.
“I want to say thank you to Rakim and to Eric B. for inviting me here tonight,” Nixon said. “I know that Eric B. is president, but I’m here because I want to be governor of New York state.”
She went on to discuss her experience as a native New Yorker to a mix of cheers and boos.
“I was born here. I grew up here,” Nixon quipped.
This isn’t the first time Nixon has tried courting the black vote. She appeared on "The Wendy Williams Show" on Tuesday and expressed her admiration for black women voters, according to CNN.
“They are the cornerstone, the backbone of the Democratic Party," Nixon said. "We need to let them lead.”
