I missed the ND/NF screening of this, even though I REALLY wanted to check it out; I had a ticket and couldn't even give it away, which was a surprise!

I just learned that it'll screen tomorrow, April 11, at BAM in Brooklyn, as part of the Ghett’Out Film Festival, which highlights work from directors "on the fringes of the French film industry."

And whadaya know? I can't make this screening either, as I have to attend opening night ceremonies for the New York African Film Festival.

But I'm sure I'll be able to get someone else to attend the screening in my face, so that we can get a review of the film on S&A.

Recapping… from Haitian-born, Paris based filmmaker Djinn Carrénard, the film is titled Donoma.

Described as a "guerrilla film" that's rumored to have cost around just $200 to make, with the help of volunteer support of many artists.

But the words "guerrilla film" should tell you much of what you need to know.

Edited over the course of several years, Donoma, which is Djinn's feature debut, interweaves three love stories, chronicling the romantic destinies of three women; "a fresh, funny portrait of an emerging French generation," said the ND/NF.

It actually premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, but we obviously missed it, because I couldn't find any writeups on it on the old S&A site. It was eventually released in France last fall – 2011. So a rather long road from its debut on the festival circuit to its official opening. Although it picked up some awards along the way too.
