As I noted yesterday, with news of Colombian-American actress Zulay Henao's casting as one of the moms in Tyler Perry's Single Mom's Club, which also has Bridesmaids star Wendi McLendon-Covey, attached to play one of the moms, there are supposed to be 3 single mothers in the film; and with one more mother still to be cast (as of yesterday), I assumed that the actress cast to play the 3rd mother would most likely be a black actress, given the backgrounds of the 2 women who had already been cast.
And it looks like Nia Long will be the 3rd and final single mother in the film, as Black Film reports.
Other actors already cast in the film include heartthrob William Levy, and, of course, Tyler Perry himself, who will also be writing, directing, and producing.
With William Levy being from Cuba, and Zulay Henao from Colombia, we can assume that Perry might be trying to tap into that ever-growing, and important Latino American market, as I noted yesterday; while Wendi McLendon-Covey may draw white women. Toss in Perry and his built-in base of primarily black women, and now Nia Long (who should also attract black women – although those who aren't in Tyler Perry's particular base – as well as even some men who want to see Nia Long back on the big screen), and Perry will be hitting several key demos with this film.
Lionsgate has set Single Moms Club to open on May 9, 2014.
