Nick Cannon's family is expanding with the addition of one more boy, but he said the process to announce he's expecting again has been considerably different this time around, according to a post on Instagram. He revealed the death of his youngest son Zen played a large role in deciding how and when to share the news.
The Love Don't Cost a Thing actor told audience members on his show, The Nick Cannon Show, that he'll soon be welcoming another son, this time with real estate agent and model Bre Tiesi. He posted photos of himself and Tiesi embracing during their recent gender reveal party, which was complete with friends, family and a helicopter blowing out blue smoke.
Tiesi makes the fifth woman to have children with Cannon, joining Mariah Carey, Brittany Bell, Abby De La Rosa and model Alyssa Scott.
“That sounds weird saying ‘the next mother’ because as everybody knows I have a lot of children, and I love them all dearly, sincerely,” Cannon said. “Every single one of my children are just as special as the other. It’s never a competition."
“Parents know what I mean when I talk about just the love that you have for a child, whether it’s a child that’s here, whether it’s a child that’s no longer here, whether it’s a child that’s grown, whether it’s a child that’s about to be here. It doesn’t matter how many you have. It’s this unconditional love, this godly-like love that comes over the process," he continued.
Cannon's son Zen died in Dec. 2021 of a brain tumor. He revealed the loss on his show, saying, "You can't heal until you feel."
Cannon shares the journey to the pregnancy announcement was "extremely difficult."
He explained on Monday's episode that he was conflicted with the current pregnancy since he was also going through a period of grief.
“This whole process was extremely difficult for me because I’ve known about Bre’s pregnancy for a while now, before my youngest Zen passed in December, and so even going through all of that, this was always in the back of my mind, like, 'When is the right time? How do I share this?'” Cannon said. “We didn’t expect Zen to pass away. All of the news was so unexpected, so to figure out a chronological order or a hierarchy, it kept me up at night.”
“I try to always operate on the highest frequency, but as much as I try to ignore some of the negative or the lower frequency things, I’m not impervious to hearing and reading what people say about me,” Cannon said. “It definitely affects me because I’m a human being. We get on here, live television, and sometimes we get at a loss of words because you want to put on the show, but you want to be real, you want to be honest, you want to be vulnerable, and I don’t have all the answers."
Scott responds to the news on Instagram.
Scott, Zen's mother, spoke out via her Instagram story expressing ongoing grief over the mention of her son in various discussions.
"It is painful having my son be a part of conversations that aren't in alignment with his light and legacy. It isn't something I chose for him or myself," she wrote, according to People.
"It's important for me to let you all know.. I am centered, I am at peace," Scott said. "I look at everyone's predicament with loving eyes. I will not judge. I will consciously decide what I will participate in. I am surrounded by love. God, my mom, dad, sister, brother, and daughter continue to carry me."
