Nick Cannon put himself in a sticky situation on Mother’s Day after a nice gesture for his 12 children’s moms went wrong.

On Monday, during his show, The Daily with Nick Cannon, the father of 12 admitted to making a mistake that caused him to wish he got “generic” gifts for the six mothers of his children. The 42-year-old comedian-turned-television host, whose children range from 6 months to 12 years old, told his listeners that he wanted to switch things up this year by taking a more heartfelt approach. So, instead of buying luxurious gifts, he bought cards and wrote individual notes to each mother of his children.

“I tried my best, I really did. But I thought it would be really, really good to… I could buy, whatever you know — to show people how you really feel, write it down,” Cannon explained on the show’s episode, which he shared a snippet of via his Instagram page. “As I’m writing a handwritten message, I get the cards mixed up. And then so when one baby mama reads the card about how I feel about the other baby mama …See if I would just got some generic s**t that everybody else got, that wouldn’t have happened.”

“I love that,” co-host Abby De La Rosa replied. De La Rose is also the mother of Cannon’s twins, Zion and Zillion, and his newest bundle of joy, Beautiful Zepplin. For some, this mix-up may not be a huge surprise considering Cannon recently forgot to mention Onyx, when sharing his children’s names while appearing on The Howard Stern Show. Later, as seen on The Jason Lee Show, the Wild ‘N Out creator’s defense was that Stern interrupting him messed up his flow.

Cannon didn’t disclose which mothers received the wrong Mother’s Day cards, but it’s safe to bet that it’s the last time he pulls this trick out of his hat.
