Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice have released their highly anticipated collaboration, “Barbie World.” They unveiled the music video and the full track after teasing snippets on social media.
The music video opens on children playing with doll renditions of the two rappers. Minaj and Spice then start switching lines on a drill beat and performing in their own Barbie Dreamhouse. The “Munch” rapper switched her signature red hair for a pink wig and both artists sport outfits and makeup inspired by the Mattel doll. We also see them partaking in Barbie activities, such as driving around in a pink convertible car and jetskiing in a sea of pink clouds.
“And I’m bad like the Barbie (Barbie) / I’m a doll but I still wanna party (Party) / Pink ‘Vette like I’m ready to bend (Bend) / I’m a ten, so I pull in a Ken (Like),” they rap.
Fans can now discover the full song beyond these viral lines.
“Barbie World” samples Aqua’s 1997 dance pop hit “Barbie Girl.” It is the fourth single for Barbie the Album, which will be released with the movie on July 21. Previously released tracks are Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night,” Karol G’s “Watati” and PinkPantheress’ “Angel.”
The track marks Minaj and Spice’s second collaboration. The New York rappers went viral with the remix for “Princess Diana” in April.
Ice Spice is at all-time high when it comes to her career. She collaborated with other major artists such as Taylor Swift and has been the subject of several ad campaigns and magazine covers. Currently, she is the artist with the most top five Hot 100 hits this year, according to Billboard.
For Nicki Minaj, embodying the character of Barbie is nothing new. She’s taken on the role and has sported hyper pop outfits in the past. She even calls her fan base the Barbz. The release of “Barbie World” comes ahead of her upcoming album dropping on Oct. 20.
