Chicago-based rappers Noname, Saba and Smino have announced they’re creating a supergroup called Ghetto Sage, The Fader reported.

They have created a Ghetto Sage Twitter account with photos of themselves, all while announcing new music, namely a debut group single.

The group members have been ranked as some of the best newer musicians in the genre, Consequence of Sound reported.

The artists have previously recorded two songs together as solo acts including, “Shadow Man” from Noname’s 2016 album Telefone and “Ace” from her 2018 album Room 25Stereogum noted. They’ve also performed together, including once on The Tonight Show

In March, Smino told Billboard about the possibility of the trio forming a group, Genius reported.

"We're a camp in a way. They are really my friends," he said.

Smino moved to Chicago from St. Louis for college in 2010. Saba and Noname, along with rapper Mick Jenkins, were the first artists he said he grew close to in the city.

Saba has been praised for his image as a Chicagoan in the midst of personal tragedy. The Chicago Tribune reported his cousin John Walt was stabbed to death in 2017 days before the release of his mixtape.

Saba still records under a separate rap group called Pivot Gang which includes some of his family members. The crew started recording music in Saba's grandmother's basement in Chicago.

Noname exploded onto the music scene after her feature performances with Chance the Rapper. She has cited a variety of artistic inspirations including Nina Simone, Toni Morrison and Patricia Smith, The Fader reported.

There have been fewer wave-making rap groups in recent years when compared to the 1990s and early 2000s. Rapper Freddie Gibbs, who is from Gary, Indiana, recently told Joe Budden in an interview he avoids being involved in rap groups for financial and personal reasons.

Meanwhile, the group has released their first single Håågen Dazs — and fans are hoping that Ghetto Sage is here to last.
