Charlotte, North Carolina-based dealership Scott Clark Auto Group partnered with the Huntersville Police Department to celebrate exceptional young people in their community. The first deserving young person was Azariya Bennett who was gifted a 2018 Toyota Corolla for her “outstanding resilience and accomplishments,” according to a release shared with Blavity.

Bennett, who was described as hardworking, is on track to graduate with “high academics.” Huntersville police officer Officer Zoerb heard of Bennett’s achievements amid adversity, and started working with the Scott Clark Auto Group to award Bennett with the gift.

This isn’t the first time the dealership group has connected with police to help the community. Back in December, they partnered with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Police Athletic League to recognize one of the program’s participants, the Charlotte Weekly reports.

Mekhi Cooper, who was in the program practicing martial arts, was gifted a Nissan Rogue. He took over teaching sessions after the original instructor had to step down amid his wife being hospitalized with COVID-19. Cooper continued taking classes at Central Piedmont Community College as he taught martial arts.

“We are really excited for the youth who learn about this program and have the opportunity to embrace it,” Chris Cady, managing partner for Scott Clark Auto Group said of their partnership with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Police Athletic League. “CMPD PAL offers incredible resources for young people who just need a connection. Whether it is through academics, the arts or athletics, we appreciate getting to be a part of helping shape some of our future leaders.”
