A white woman was caught on camera hurling racial slurs at a Black hotel receptionist back in April 2018. Now, the hotel receptionist is suing for unspecified damages, reports New York Post

Linda Shell was working the front desk of City Club Hotel in New York City after midnight on April 6, 2018, when Michelle Rajacic walked in demanding a room key. When Shell asked to see ID, Rajacic responded with racial epithets.

In the video, Rajacic can be heard calling Shell a “dirty f**king hood rat,” “n****r,” “f**king ghetto ass” and more.

Throughout the incident, Shell seems to remain calm, despite the verbal attack.

“You can call me whatever you want ma’am, without an ID I’m not letting you upstairs,” Shell can be heard saying.

According to the Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit filed by Shell, Rajacic spat on and assaulted Shell with her cell phone.

“Defendant spit on Plaintiff and then assaulted, battered, and attacked the Plaintiff, and used physical force without cause or justification and without Plaintiff’s consent,” the lawsuit claims.

Shell says after the woman spat on her, she attempted to escort her out, but was hit in the face.

“After, she kept spitting. I was getting more upset because that is the lowest thing you can do to someone. I said, ‘OK, ma’am, it’s time for you to go,'” Shell said. “I grabbed her arm and started leading her to the front desk. She then broke her cellphone across my face.”

Rajacic was arrested and charged with third-degree assault.

According to Shell, the hotel gifted Rajacic with a free room after she was released from jail, which led the receptionist to quit.

“I told them I could no longer work there because my safety is no longer important to them,” she said.

Joshua Barbee, manager of City Club Hotel, denied the claim.

“This is the first we are learning of this litigation,” Barbee said. “The claims being made regarding the hotel are completely incorrect. With that said, since this is pending litigation, we will have no further comment.”

Hotel receptionists aren’t new to dealing with racist patrons. Back in June, Holiday Inn Express employee Craig Brooks was on the receiving end of a racial slur.

A woman called him a “f**king n****r” while trying to make a reservation over the phone. When she got to the front desk, Brooks said he could not allow her to stay in the hotel.

“It’s above me now,” he told her.

The video made its rounds on the internet, but soon after, his transphobic past resurfaced.

According to Buzzfeed News, Brooks publicly apologized for his comments and said he “will change his behavior.”
