If you’ve ever taken a ride on the New York City subway, you’ve probably come across his advertisement promising “beautiful, clear skin.”
Dr. Jonathan Zizmor, or more affectionately known as Dr. Z, has announced his retirement at the age of 70. The dermatologist started running ads with the MTA in the early 80s, at a time when advertising was unheard of on the trains. He says that his office saw a lot of rich women early on, but that he wanted to see the “rest of the world,” so he promoted his dermatology skills in the best place, the trains. While it seems he never updated the ad graphics since the 80s, they always made commutes a little less awkward (especially when avoiding eye contact with other passengers). Naturally, New Yorkers are handling the news with the right amount of jaded heartbreak.
The MTA just lost like half its subway ad revenue — Dr. Zizmor is retiring https://t.co/gQfo7UCymD

Mazel Tov on his retirement, and may the MTA always have one ad hanging in the rafters. Thank you, Dr. Zizmor.
