Octavia Spencer will be honored in her hometown state of Alabama with her own day next Wednesday. According to Starpulse, the day will be officially procclaimed Octavia Spencer Day.
The honors come after Spencer's Academy Award win for her supporting turn in the polarizing blockbuster hit The Help. Governor Robert Bentley and Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange will be hosting the celebration on Wednesday.
Spencer will also be honored with a private reception hosted by Representative Mike Hubbard and fellow officials at the State Legislature, during which Mayor Strange will present Spencer with a key to the city.
Spencer will be saluted into the State Legislatature with a musical number by the Jefferson Davis High School's band. The high school, Spencer's alma mater, will perform for the actress on the State House's steps.
"Hey y'all. I'm thrilled to say that on Wed 3/21 I will be in Montgomery addressing the State Leg. Thanks to Rep Hubbard!!! Come out and see me if you can!" Spencer wrote on her Facebook wall.
Congrats to Ms. Spencer! Surely, the state of Alabama appreciated Spencer's shout out on her Oscar acceptance speech.
