Octavia Spencer remains in Britney Spears’ corner nearly two years after she announced her engagement to Iranian American model Sam Asghari. And now, the actor’s advice to sign a prenup has gone viral again!
On Wednesday, the Hidden Figures star shared her thoughts on a Page Six post comedian Loni Love shared on her Instagram account.
Page Six reported Asghari had threatened to release “embarrassing” info about the “Toxic” singer if their prenup is not renegotiated.
Spencer said, “Extortion is illegal,” regarding Asghari’s attempt to get paid from the ordeal. Several users in the comment section agreed with the 52-year-old’s statement.

Earlier in the day, news had circulated that Asghari had filed for divorce from Spears after 14 months of marriage. Spencer’s initial September 2021 advice to the singer to “sign a prenup” had resurfaced online.
Spears posted a photo of her engagement ring to her Instagram account and revealed Asghari had proposed after six years of dating. In the comment section, the Oscar winner advised the Mississippi native to protect herself and her assets.
“Make him sign a prenup,” Spencer wrote.
Spencer’s message seemingly went viral, but she later walked back her comments and said it was a “joke.”
“Y’all, a few days ago Sam and Britney announced their engagement and me being me I made a joke. My intention was to make them laugh not cause pain,” she wrote in the post’s caption on her Instagram account.
She continued: “I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of. Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness. We’re thrilled for her. So let’s show them love. 👇🏽 #nonegativity“

Meanwhile, Ashgari accepted her apology and responded to Spencer.
“You are very kind to clarify but i have no hard feelings whatsoever,” he wrote in the post’s comment section. “Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory.”
A source with information about the divorce told TMZ there were cheating rumors and other reasons that may have led to the couple’s breakup.
