Can't say I've heard much buzz around this project… yet; although it won't be out until July 6th, which seems like an odd date to release a drama like this. But maybe the thinking is that it could be a bit of counter programming, given what will be a deluge of mega-budgeted summer action flicks.

Directed by Rob Reiner, The Magic Of Belle Isle stars Morgan Freeman as Monte Wildhorn "a famous Western novelist whose struggle with alcoholism has sapped his passion for writing. He takes a lakeside cabin for the summer in picturesque Belle Isle, and befriends the family next door including a single mother (Virginia Madsen) and her young daughters who help him find inspiration again."

The film, which co-stars Kenan Thompson, Fred Willard and Madeline Carroll, was picked up by Magnolia Pictures, with plans to release it in theaters and VOD this summer. The specific release schedule will see the film released first on VOD on June 1st, and then in theaters on July 6th, continuing Magnolia's VOD/theatrical mix release strategy.

A trailer has finally surfaced and it's embedded below, followed by its official poster:
