It was only a matter of time; I'm surprised it took this long actually.
The French blockbuster he stars in debuting in USA theaters this Friday, May 25 (Intouchables), star Omar Sy (winner of the Lumière award – French equivalent of the Golden Globes – for Best Actor, and France's highest acting honor in that same category, the César Award – the French equivalent of the Academy Award) has signed with United Talent Agency (UTA), one of the largest talent and literary agencies, not only in the USA, but in the world.
And with that piece of news, I expect it's only a matter of time before we see Omar Sy in some Hollywood projects.
By the way, Intouchables is listed as the second highest grossing non-English language film in the entire world, since The Passion of the Christ; the latter grossed over $611 million worldwide; the former has grossed $339 million worldwide thus far, but it hasn't opened in the USA and other territories yet, so who knows where it'll close when its theatrical run ends.
I've seen Intouchables, and will review it later this week, before it opens.
Sy has a number of projects on the horizon, including Michel Gondry's Mood Indigo, which is currently shooting.
As I type this, I can't help bu hum that Rufus track: "He's on his way; He's goin' to Hollywood; He's bussin' it to Hollywood; Show him the way; He's movin' to Hollywood; He's hoppin' it to Hollywood." 🙂
