It looks like F. Gary Gray has his cast for the his upcoming NWA project, Straight Outta Compton – another one of those "in limbo" biopics I wrote about a little bit ago that's apparently now on its way to becoming realized, if the above photo is any indication.
Late last night, Dr Dre posted the above photo to Twitter, along with the caption:
Dre & F Gary Gray – The NWA Movie kicks off the collaboration! Expect more incredible projects from this powerhouse duo
Last we wrote about it, Ice Cube said in an interview that it was definitely happening, but he didn't reveal much detail. He did say they were on the hunt for a director. But the project has obviously found its guy in Gray.
And soon after that, F. Gary Gray launched an open casting call for the project, via the web, with the intent being to cast unknowns in the film's starring roles. Of course I'm really curious to know what actors they eventually went with. We'll find out soon enough.
Gray's last big screen project was in 2009 with Law Abiding Citizen. Since then he's been attached to helm 3 or more different projects, though none stuck – except this one; would be great to see him back at work again.
Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez are producing the NWA project via Cube Vision, along with Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods.
