From International Film Circuit, the distributor of the The Waiting Room, Emmy-winner Where Soldiers Come From, Peabody-winner My Perestroika, The Devil Came on Horseback and the Academy Award-nominated film Darwin’s Nightmare, comes a new documentary release titled Sweet Dreams, a film by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Lisa Fruchtman and Rob Fruchtman.
Ingoma Nshya is Rwanda’s first and only all women’s drumming troupe. Made up of women from both sides of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the troupe offers a place of support, healing and reconciliation. When the group decides to partner with two young American entrepreneurs, Jennie Dundas and Alexis Miesen of Brooklyn’s Blue Marble Ice Cream, to open Rwanda’s first ever ice cream shop, these remarkable Rwandan women embark on a journey of independence, peace and possibility. SWEET DREAMS interweaves intimate, heart-wrenching stories with joyous and powerful music to present a moving portrait of a country in transition.
Among the film’s many accolades, it as a Top 10 Audience Award Winner at IDFA and an official selection at DOC NYC, Silverdocs, Mill Valley Film Festival and many other prominent U.S. and international film festivals.
“Sweet Dreams is telling a new kind of story… the story of a remarkable group of women who dare to dream of new possibilities for themselves and their country,” say the veteran sister and brother filmmaking team, Lisa and Rob Fruchtman.
International Film Circuit will open the film in theaters on November 1, starting in New York City, at Quad Cinema; and then in Los Angeles at Laemmle Music Hall, on November 29.
